Library and Archives tours
Conducted tours of the Library and Archives in the Savoy Place building, including a guide to using electronic resources. The Archives introduces visitors to special collections including original manuscripts and rare books.
Tours of the Library, Archives or the facilities at Savoy Place (or any combination of these three) are offered to members. If you wish to visit as part of a small group of two or three, or even individually, please book in advance.
The tour will introduce you to our magnificent reading room on the 1st floor which houses a world-class collection of the latest and historical books and journals. A quick guide to using our Virtual library resources for electronic books and journals and our Library online catalogue (see link on right) will show you how to access these useful resources remotely.
If you would like to learn more about the unique treasures the Archives hold then book a place on the tour and we will take you down to the basement of Savoy Place and the special rare books libraries. Here you will be able to see original manuscripts dating back to the 14th century, rare books that have belonged to famous scientists and their personal papers.
The Archives also holds the IET’s own records from its first meeting in 1871, records of women in engineering and a large collection of photographs of electrical equipment, people, street scenes and much more.
