Communications Panel
Identifying policy issues applicable to the communications sector and providing guidance to IET members, government and the public.
As part of the IET, the Communications Sector Panel (Comms SP) is an independent group, that undertakes to proactively identify policy issues applicable to the sector and provide guidance to IET members, Government and the public. Its remit covers all relevant IET professional activities including submissions to government or third party consultations, and IET strategy formulation. This work being in a national, European and international context. In support of this endeavour the Comms SP's scope embraces the following policy issues:-
- Economic and political influences on/due to communications technology.
- Environmental impact of communications technology.
- National and European Community communication legislation change.
- Convergence of information technology and traditional telecommunications and broadcasting.
- Emerging technologies likely to impact communications implementations.
- Safety, security and reliability of communication systems.
- Theory and practice of communications engineering at device and system level.
- Communications engineering skills, skills attrition, education and recruitment.
It is one of eight sector panels established by the IET policy department.
